# CHORD MACHINE
### Chord Progression Generator for Electronic Music
Create chord progressions in your browser, explore scale-aware harmony and parallel Detroit-style voicings, and export the results as MIDI or WAV.
Start with a preset or generated progression, then adjust individual chords, inversions and rhythms to develop your own idea.
## Quick start
1. Choose a KEY and SCALE.
2. Select a preset, or press CLASSIC or EXPERIMENTAL to generate a progression.
3. Press RUN / STOP to listen.
4. Adjust each chord’s DEGREE, INVERSION and TONE.
5. Export MIDI to use your own instrument, or WAV to keep the machine’s audio.
## Controls
**Key and scale**
KEY sets the root note. SCALE selects the musical scale used by the progression.
**Voicing and palette**
Explore THEORY and DETROIT voicing modes to hear different approaches to harmony. PALETTE offers a range of chord colours to try.
**Progression generation and presets**
Use CLASSIC or EXPERIMENTAL to explore generated progressions. The PRESETS menu provides starting points for different musical styles.
**Individual chords**
Each of the four chord slots has its own controls. DEGREE selects its position in the scale, INVERSION changes the arrangement of notes, and TONE selects its chord colour.
**Chord locks**
Use L1–L4 to lock chord slots you want to keep while generating alternatives.
**Rhythm and shift**
Use RHYTHM to explore rhythmic variations and the controls beneath each chord to adjust its rhythm. RHYTHM CLR resets all chord rhythms to HOLD. The SHIFT arrows move the progression left or right.
**Tempo, decay and drone**
TEMPO sets the playback speed. DECAY adjusts how long the internal chord sound rings out. Use DRONE and its level control to add a sustained reference tone while exploring the progression.
**Metronome and undo**
Use the metronome to hear the beat. The arrows beside UNDO move through your edits.
## Export and use in your DAW
**MIDI** exports the progression as note data. Import it into a MIDI track and load your preferred chord, pad or keyboard instrument.
**WAV** exports audio using the machine’s internal sound. Import it into an audio track to arrange or process it.
**MIDI OUT** (off line version only) sends notes to an available MIDI output and mutes the internal synth. Live MIDI requires a compatible browser and a configured MIDI destination.
The NUDGE −/+ controls shift live and exported MIDI timing in 5 ms steps. Use them to adjust timing against other material.
## Using the progression
Try the same progression with different instruments, registers and rhythms in your DAW. Use the machine as a starting point, then develop the notes and sound to fit your track.
