# RHYTHM MACHINE
### Drum Pattern Generator for Electronic Music

Create drum patterns in your browser, explore new grooves and export the results as MIDI or WAV. Start with an automatically generated pattern, edit the steps yourself, then adjust the tempo, swing and accents to shape the rhythm.

## Quick start

1. Press AUTO to generate a pattern.
2. Press RUN/STOP to start or stop playback.
3. Click steps in the grid to add or remove hits.
4. Adjust TEMPO, SWING and ACCENT while listening.
5. Export MIDI to use your own drum sounds, or WAV to keep the machine’s audio.

## Controls

**Drum grid**
Each row represents a drum sound, and each column represents a step in the pattern. Click a step to turn a hit on or off. Click a track name to mute that sound.

**AUTO and style**
AUTO generates a new pattern. Use the style button, initially labelled 4X4, to explore the available rhythm styles.

**Tempo, swing and accent**
TEMPO sets the playback speed. SWING changes the rhythmic feel. Hold a step, or Shift-click it, to apply an accent. Use ACCENT to adjust the accent amount.

**Key and scale**
Select the key and scale using the dropdown menus.

**Undo, redo and clear**
Use the arrow buttons beside UNDO to move through your edits. CLR clears the pattern.

## Pattern memory

Use the four numbered slots to store and recall patterns. Select WRITE and choose a slot to store a pattern. Select PLAY and choose a slot to recall it.

Export any patterns you want to keep outside the machine.

## Export and use in your DAW

**MIDI** exports the pattern as note data. Import it into a MIDI track and load a drum instrument. You may need to adjust the note mapping to match your drum kit.

**WAV** exports audio using the machine’s sounds. Import it into an audio track to arrange, process or sample it.

## Keyboard shortcut

Press Spacebar to start or stop playback while the machine has keyboard focus.
