The Internet Archive has an incredible collection of vintage sample CDs, sampler libraries and forgotten musical oddities.
Many of the downloads are straightforward ZIP archives containing WAV or lossless FLAC files. Those can already be opened using the tools built into a modern Mac or PC.
Some releases, however, are stored as old sampler-disc images, BIN/CUE sets, mixed-mode CDs or other formats that aren’t as easy to access.
That’s what the Sample Disc Extractor below is for.
What the extractor supports
Akai sampler discs
For supported Akai S900, S1000, S3000 and CD3000 discs, the extractor can:
Find the samples stored on the disc
Preview individual sounds
Convert samples into standard WAV files
Preserve loop points, root key and tuning information
Rejoin matching left and right samples into stereo files
Download the converted library as an organised ZIP
BIN/CUE audio discs
For matching BIN/CUE sets, the extractor can:
Identify the individual CD tracks
Convert audio tracks into stereo WAV files
Preserve the original CD-quality audio
Download the extracted tracks together as a ZIP
When choosing a BIN/CUE set, select the .cue file and all its matching .bin files together.
Mixed-mode CDs
Some sample CDs contain both computer data and ordinary CD-audio tracks.
For supported mixed-mode discs, the extractor can separate the tracks and recover:
Audio tracks as WAV files
MODE1 data tracks as ISO images
ISO and UDF disc images
The extractor can also open supported ISO9660, Joliet and UDF images, display their contents and extract the original files while preserving their folder structure.

Compatibility
The extractor accepts .iso, .img, .udf, .bin and .cue files.
It supports ISO9660, Joliet and UDF images; BIN/CUE audio and supported mixed-mode CDs; plus Akai S900, S1000, S3000 and CD3000 sampler discs.
Very large disc images may be limited by the memory available to your browser.
